Recovering Through God's Truth - Book Review

The following book review is on the book:

Recovering Through God’s Truth by Steve Curington.

Steve Curington is the late founder of the Reformers Unanimous International organization. This organization is the world’s largest faith based addiction recovery program. The organization takes a straight from the scripture approach to dealing with not just alcohol and drug addiction but also any other addictive or yoke bonding behavior in one’s life that may inhibit or prevent their relationship with Christ.
The organization took its founding after many years of battling alcohol and drug addiction by its founder and author of this book Steve Curington. After giving his life over to the Lord Curington began to realize the difficulties of staying clean and breaking free with the help of state funded programs, secular social organizations and many other recovery programs and methods outside the confines of the church and biblical doctrine. Reformers Unanimous was then formed as a breakthrough in recovery treatment for those with faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. RU grants assistance and power to obtain freedom with the help and life changing power of Christ and the Word of God, something that a believer will not find in worldly based institutions outside the church.
Recovering Through God’s Truth is the outline of what Steve Curington centered RU’s program around. The sub title for the book is “10 Principles of Freedom for the Addicted Nation.” These 10 principles are the core of the program and are the focus of the program as well as the benchmarks for breaking free of addictive behavior as taught by Curington. Some of these principles are subjects such as: Principle 1 - If God is against it, so am I. Principle 7 – Our sinful habits do hurt those who follow us and Principle 10 – God balances guilt with blame.
This book begins explaining in detail and with Biblical cross reference the inerrancies with secular recovery models as well as explanation as to why a Christian should not hold faith in them for recovery. The book then features a chapter on each principle explaining how acknowledging each, applying it within your life and trusting on Christ, you can be set free from addiction. The power behind this book and these principles is its focus on truth, and that is the truth that is in the word of God.
This book is not solely for those addicted to alcohol or other substance abuse. It focuses on any stronghold in a Christian’s life. Many followers of these principles as well as members in the RU program are those who are addicted to substance, pornography, gambling, shopping, have anger issues, lying issues, hoarding and collecting issues and many other habit or stronghold forming behavior.
The beauty behind this book is its ability to find strongholds in your life that you may not have even thought about. Many attendees of the program meetings and readers of Curington’s works have not had substance abuse problems or may have been attending in support of a friend or relative but have found in their own lives stronghold in their lives that have crippled their relationship with God.
I myself recommend this book to any and all that may have habits or addictions inhibiting their relationship with Christ and problems within their families and lives. I was burdened for many years with an alcohol addiction as well and this book has helped me immensely with not only that issue but also with discovering other strongholds in my life that where hindering my life as a Christian. It would be hard, in my opinion, for any true confessing Christian to read this book and not find something in their life that is a stronghold before God.
I highly recommend this book for those who suffer, those with family members that suffer and for any Christian that wishes to develop a stronger relationship with Christ.

Thank you for reading
In Christ, WH
